Manchester City fans on social media have started to wonder if the club made a mistake by selling striker Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid and he has been scoring goals, unlike their own Erling Braut Haaland who has been struggling without competition for his position.
Manchester Evening News reported that after City chose to sell Alvarez for a club record £82m because they were confident in Haaland to continue his hot performance for the third year, doubts arose as the season progressed.
In the latest UFABET Champions League. Alvarez scored again against Slovan Bratislava 3-1, making his Champions League record still outstanding, with 16 goals (shot or assisted) in 23 matches.
The Argentine forward opened the scoring with a curling effort into the corner in the 16th minute, his fourth in six appearances for Atletico in the Champions League.
That puts Alvarez in second place on 74 minutes per goal, behind only Haaland on 69 minutes per goal.
The Norwegian striker’s 0-2 defeat to Juventus yesterday also lacked sharpness, throwing away many chances, resulting in a bad record as the player who missed the most chances in the 2024-25 Champions League season, a total of 8 times.
As for converting golden opportunities into goals, 4 out of 12 times, the efficiency has dropped significantly to around 33%.
